MAIDEN ERLEGH SCHOOL IN READING'S LEARNING JOURNEY

All students are on a learning journey which they will continue all the way through their adult lives.

In order that the journey is stimulating, enjoyable and successful for all our students we ensure that:

  • students have access to curriculum pathways and a broad range courses appropriate to their strengths, needs and aspirations
  • students are taught using a wide range of techniques and resources which promote deep learning and understanding
  • students develop a range of skills and learning habits so that they can manage their own learning as much as possible
  • students are both supported and challenged them where necessary
  • students and parents know and understand their end of key stage performance targets
  • students and parents know and understand their what they need to do to ensure students make strong progress towards their targets
  • teachers and teaching assistants understand how they can help every student in their care to progress along their personal Learning Journey.

Foundation

Key Stage 4

Maiden Erlegh School in Reading is committed to supporting students in achieving their full academic potential and on-going assessment plays a vital role ensuring that happens.

At the start of each key stage, students set themselves a target in negotiation with their teachers. This is based on a "realistically aspirational" grade which reflects what similar students nationally might aspire to. Regular assessment helps us monitor students’ progress and target learning and teaching activities accordingly. In addition, students receive regular feedback on their work and are expected to do complete improvement and reflection activities to embed their learning and understanding.

We regularly feedback this information to parents and students and the main ways of doing this are:

Reports

Each Year Group in school receives an annual report made up of 4-5 half termly data reports. The half termly data reports contain the student targets and a current attainment or predicted grade. The Learning Gateway also provides parents and students with information about attendance, behaviour and pastoral achievements as well as the timetable. Parents and students can access the Learning Gateway at any time to see this “live” data.

Progress Meetings

Once a year, students and parents are invited to a calendared meeting with subject staff. The purpose of this is to discuss targets, progress and strategies for improvement. Parents and students may request additional appointments with teachers at any point throughout the year.
