Year 8 Options

At Maiden Erlegh School in Reading, all students in Key Stage 4 will follow the same core curriculum at GCSE examination level.

Optional Curriculum
The remainder of the curriculum is chosen by the students and is accessed through one of two curriculum pathways: blue and yellow.

It is important for students to consider the courses most suitable for them, taking into account their own strengths and weaknesses.  The first part of the process is to find out about the courses and how they are assessed.  The handbook below contains a great deal of information for students and parents about the courses being offered.  Parents also have an opportunity to find out more about courses at the Year 8 Options Evening on Thursday 27 January 2021.  Information videos from the Curriculum Leaders of each option subject will also be available on the school website from 21 January. These will provide key information regarding each subject area.

We believe that the curriculum pathway recommended for your child will offer the best route to success at KS4.  Students should find that within the recommended pathway they will be able to choose the subjects that they believe are appropriate for them.
